Animals in the Bible

Genesis 1:25 "God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good."

I have provided the verse only that makes a reference to an animal. Please read the surrounding verses to understand the how and why the animal is mentioned.

Addax (Light-colored, large Saharan antelope) - Deuteronomy 14:5 "the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the addax, the antelope, and the mountain sheep." (New Living Translation)

Ant - Proverbs 6:6 "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!" Proverbs 30:25 "Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer"

Antelope - Deuteronomy 14:5 "the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope and the mountain sheep."; Isaiah 51:20 "Your sons have fainted; they lie at the head of every street, like antelope caught in a net."

Ape - 1 Kings 10:22 "The king had a fleet of trading ships at sea along with the ships of Hiram. Once every three years it returned, carrying gold, silver and ivory, and apes and baboons."

Bald Locust - Leviticus 11:22 "Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper."

Barn Owl - Leviticus 11:18 "the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey"

Bat - Leviticus 11:19 "the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat"; Isaiah 2:20 "In that day men will throw away to the rodents and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship."

Bear - 1 Samuel 17:34-37 "But David said to Saul, "Your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me. I seized it by its hair. struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.'; 2 Kings 2:24 "He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Behemoth (Could be an animal; Some say it's a mythical sea monster of ancient literature) - Job 40:15 "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox."

Buzzard - Deuteronomy 14:13 "the kite, the falcon, buzzards of all kinds," (NLT); Isaiah 34:15 "There the owl will make her nest and lay her eggs. She will hatch her young and cover them with her wings. And the buzzards will come, each one with its mate." (NLT)

Camel - Genesis 24:10 "Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and left, taking with him all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim and made his way to the town of Nahor."; Leviticus 11:4 ""'There are some that only chew the cud or only have a split hoof, but you must not eat them. The camel, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof: it is ceremonially unclean for you."; Isaiah 30:6 "An oracle concerning the animals of the Negev: Through a land of hardship and distress, of lions and lionesses, of adders and darting snakes, the envoys carry their riches on donkeys' backs, their treasures on the humps of camels, to that unprofitable nation"; Matthew 3:4 "John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. Chameleon - Leviticus 11:30 "the gecko, the monitor lizard, the wall lizard, the skink and the chameleon."

Cormorant (large black water bird) - Leviticus 11:17 "the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl"

Cow - Isaiah 11:7 "The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox."; Daniel 4:25 "You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals: you will eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven."

Crane . Isaiah 38:14 "Delirious, I chattered like a swallow or a crane, and then I moaned like a mourning dove. My eyes grew tired of looking to heaven for help. I am in trouble, Lord. Help me!" (NLT); Jeremiah 8:7 "Even the stork that flies across the sky knows the time of her migration, as do the turtledove, the swallow, and the crane. They all return at the proper time each year. But not my people! They do not know the Lord's laws." (NLT)

Cricket - Leviticus 11:22 "Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper."

Deer - Deuteronomy 12:15 "Nevertheless, you may slaughter your animals in any of your towns and eat as much of the meat as you want, as if it were gazelle or deer, according to the blessing the LORD your God gives you. Dog - Judges 7:5 "So Gideon took the men down to the water. Fish - Exodus 7:18 "The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’”"; Jonah 1:17 "But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights."; Matthew 14:17 "“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered."; Matthew 17:27 "“But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Fox - Judges 15:4 "So he went out and caught three hundred foxes and tied them tail to tail in pairs. Hawk - Leviticus 11:16 "the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk"; Job 39:26 "“Does the hawk take flight by your wisdom and spread his wings toward the south?"

Heron - Leviticus 11:19 "the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat."
